What grades does Orlando Junior Academy serve?
Orlando Junior Academy serves students from Pre-K (VPK) through 8th grade. It does not offer high school grades. The campus is located in the College Park neighborhood of Orlando, Florida.
Is OJA a private Christian school? What denomination?
Yes. Orlando Junior Academy is a private, Christ-centered school within the Seventh-day Adventist Church, operating as part of the Florida Conference Office of Education. The school has served the College Park area of Orlando since 1906.
Does my child have to be Seventh-day Adventist to attend?
No. Orlando Junior Academy welcomes students from any faith background who want a Christ-centered environment for their child, and applies a non-discrimination policy to every admission decision. Families are asked to respect a few practices rooted in Adventist tradition, such as Sabbath as a day of rest and a vegetarian lunch option, and Bible class teaches from an Adventist perspective with room for open dialogue.
What is the student-teacher ratio at Orlando Junior Academy?
Orlando Junior Academy's student-teacher ratio currently runs about 9 to 1, meaning teachers have real time for individual students rather than a large, impersonal classroom. It typically ranges closer to 13 to 1 depending on year-to-year enrollment.
Is Orlando Junior Academy accredited?
Yes. Orlando Junior Academy is accredited by the Adventist Accrediting Association, the Seventh-day Adventist Church's own denominational accrediting body, and by the Middle States Association Commissions on Elementary and Secondary Schools, a regional accreditor.
How much does tuition cost?
For the 2026-27 school year, annual tuition is $7,500 for full-day PreK and $9,500 for kindergarten through 8th grade, both payable monthly, by semester, or in full. Families using Florida's free VPK-only morning program (8 to 11 a.m.) pay through the state voucher rather than OJA tuition. A registration fee, technology fee, and other program fees apply on top of tuition. Paying in full by August 15 earns a 5 percent discount, and semester payment by August 15 and January 15 earns 2 percent.
What financial aid or scholarships are available?
Yes. Orlando Junior Academy accepts Florida's Step Up For Students scholarships, including the Family Empowerment Scholarship and Florida Tax Credit Scholarship programs, as well as AAA scholarship options. These programs can cover some or all of tuition depending on household eligibility. Contact the OJA office to discuss which programs your family may qualify for and current award amounts.
What is the admissions process, and how do I apply?
Applying to OJA is a three-step process. First, complete the online application for new students or the re-enrollment form for returning students. Second, gather the required documents: two student recommendation forms, a copy of the last report card, recent standardized test scores or an IEP if applicable, a birth certificate copy, an updated immunization record, and a recent physical exam. Third, submit the completed package with the application fee for review by the admissions committee, which notifies families of its decision by mail or email.
Is before-care or after-care available?
Yes, for all grades. Morning care is available for $30 a week or $6 a day with advance registration. OJA's after-school Enrichment Program runs until 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 4:00 p.m. on Friday, with a $250 monthly prepaid rate (less per additional sibling) or a $6 per half-hour drop-in rate.
How do I schedule a tour or visit?
Families can schedule a campus tour by calling Orlando Junior Academy at (407) 898-1251 or emailing Info@DiscoverOJA.com. The school's Contact page also offers an online message form for tour requests.

College Park is a historic, walkable neighborhood built largely in the 1920s, with tree-lined streets, Craftsman-style bungalows, and the Edgewater Drive corridor of local restaurants and shops just a short walk or bike ride from most homes.
About OJA
How long has OJA been serving College Park?
Orlando Junior Academy has been part of the College Park neighborhood since 1906. The school operates within the Florida Conference Office of Education, a network of roughly 30 Seventh-day Adventist schools across Florida.
Who leads Orlando Junior Academy?
Orlando Junior Academy is led by Principal Sharlene Curet, who first walked through OJA's doors in 1997 and has served the school as librarian, teacher, and parent, and now as principal. She describes education as more than a profession: a ministry of the heart.
What makes an OJA education different?
OJA pairs strong academics with Christ-centered, experiential education. The school's promise is that your child will be loved, safe, taught how to think, and will know Jesus. As an FLCOE Innovation Lab School with a Kitchen House farm-to-table partnership, learning reaches beyond worksheets into gardens, labs, and the College Park community, in classes small enough for every child to be known as the unique creation of God they are.
Faith and community
What does faith life look like day to day?
Biblical values are integrated into the school day rather than boxed into one class. Students take Bible class taught from an Adventist perspective with room for open dialogue, and the week is shaped by the rhythms of a grace-filled environment where questions are welcome.
[VERIFY with OJA's office before publishing: weekly chapel schedule and any other regular faith practices.]What are the behavior and conduct expectations?
OJA keeps a sharp focus on learning and caring, and all students adhere to a code of conduct supported by the Biblical beliefs of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. The expectations apply to every student, and small class sizes mean teachers can address issues personally and early.
Academics and programs
What are Innovation Labs?
OJA is an FLCOE Innovation Lab School, a designation within the Florida Conference Office of Education network that supports hands-on, experiential learning. Students tackle real projects rather than only textbooks, building the problem solving and curiosity that a Christ-centered education is meant to grow.
What is the Kitchen House Partnership?
Through the Kitchen House Partnership, OJA students learn farm to table: they grow food in garden lessons and connect it to the kitchen and the lunch table. It is hands-on learning with a practical outcome, and it runs from PreK through 8th grade.
Do students use technology in class?
Yes. The technology fee supports K-8 student devices, classroom technology tools, high-speed internet, and digital subscriptions such as Adobe Suite and Microsoft Office. Technology is treated as a tool inside the curriculum, not a substitute for teachers.
What sports and activities are offered?
OJA runs intramurals and sports teams such as basketball and volleyball, with participation fees typically between $25 and $100 depending on the sport. Students also enjoy the on-campus soccer field and traditions like Friday basketball time.
Are field trips included in costs?
A field trip fee covers homeroom and school-wide field trips for the entire year: $50 to $150 for PreK through 7th grade and $600 for 8th grade. Electives and club fees and trips are priced separately.
Admissions and VPK
Where do I apply online?
The online application for new students and the re-enrollment form for returning students both run through OJA's application portal, linked from the Apply Now page. After submitting, the three-step admissions process takes over.
What is Florida VPK, and how does it work at OJA?
VPK is Florida's free voluntary prekindergarten program, and OJA participates. Families first get an eligibility certificate online through Florida Early Learning, then choose between VPK only, a five-day morning program from 8 to 11 a.m., or the VPK plus wrap-around option, which runs 11:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday. The voucher applies to PreK tuition.
Can students with IEPs apply?
Yes. The admissions checklist asks for recent standardized test scores or an IEP if applicable, and the admissions committee reviews the complete picture for every student. Families are encouraged to talk with the OJA office about their child's specific needs before applying.
Tuition, fees, and aid
What fees come on top of tuition?
For 2026-27: a $150 new-student application fee, registration of $600 for PreK and $900 for K-8, a $400 technology fee ($150 for PreK), and program fees such as field trips ($50 to $150 for PreK through 7th, $600 for 8th), sports ($25 to $100), uniforms ($20 to $50 per item), and a graduation fee ($100 for PreK, $200 for 8th). The tuition answer above has the headline numbers.
How do payment plans work?
Three options. Monthly tuition runs through FACTS, an automatic bank draft company. Semester payments are due by August 15 and January 15 and earn a 2 percent discount. Annual payment is due by August 15 and earns a 5 percent discount.
Is there a family or sibling discount?
Yes. OJA offers a family discount that varies depending on the number of children enrolled, in addition to the annual and semester payment discounts. Ask the OJA office for the current family discount schedule when you visit.
Daily life
Are uniforms required?
Yes. OJA requires school and PE uniforms, including winter wear, typically $20 to $50 per item depending on type and size.
Is lunch provided?
Yes. Lunch is served on campus, and students rave about Chef Ed's cooking. A vegetarian option is part of the school's Adventist tradition. Lunch pricing for 2026-27 was still being finalized on the tuition page, so check with the office for current menus and costs.
Is there a late pickup fee?
Yes. A $1 per minute late fee applies after the Enrichment Program closes.
How can parents be involved?
OJA families describe a real camaraderie: parents support one another, attend programs and meetings, and help create the warm atmosphere families keep coming back for. The small-school scale makes it easy to know teachers and families by name.
How safe is the campus?
Safety starts with scale and relationships: a small campus where everyone knows your name, teachers noted for giving significant personal attention to each student, and a stated promise that your child will be loved and safe. Ask about current security practices when you tour.
